Description
This advanced-level course is designed for narcotics investigators, task force officers, supervisors, and law enforcement personnel seeking to enhance their investigative skills and operational effectiveness in complex drug investigations. Participants will examine current drug trends, emerging trafficking methods, and recent legal updates impacting narcotics enforcement.
The course provides in-depth instruction on the development and management of Confidential Informants (CIs) and Sources of Information (SOIs), emphasizing their appropriate use in intelligence gathering and criminal investigations. Students will explore a variety of controlled operations, including controlled purchases, reverse operations, undercover introductions, buy/bust and buy/walk techniques, and long-term investigative strategies. Special attention is given to evidence preservation and documentation throughout the investigative process.
Additional topics include the legal considerations and operational procedures associated with motor vehicle tracking devices, advanced surveillance and intelligence-gathering techniques, and the preparation and execution of narcotics-related search warrants. Participants will also learn effective post-arrest interview and cooperation strategies designed to identify additional targets and expand investigations.
The course concludes with instruction on operational briefing and debriefing structures, case organization, courtroom preparation, and investigator testimony. Through real-world case studies, practical exercises, and scenario-based discussions, students will gain actionable skills that can be immediately applied to narcotics investigations within their jurisdictions.
