About Russell Strickland

Russell Strickland is an instructor for the North Carolina Justice Academy (NCJA).  In this role, he provides training and coordination in the following areas; General Criminal Investigations, Suicide Investigations, Child Death and Advanced Child Death Investigations, Narcotics Investigations, Investigating Crimes in Long Term Care Facilities, Preservation of Digital Evidence on Mobile Devices, Teen Dating Violence, and Fundamentals of the Investigative Process. 

Russell Strickland was an instructor for Sampson Community College (SCC) from 2009 to 2013.  There he taught cadets and current law enforcement officers in a wide range of basic law enforcement training topics mandated by the State of North Carolina.  Since joining the NCJA, he has served as an adjunct instructor for SCC.  

Currently, Russell serves as Deputy with the Sampson County Sherriff’s Office (North Carolina) in a reserve status.  Prior to transitioning to teaching in a full time capacity, he served with the Clinton Police Department in the following capacities (2003 to 2013); Sergeant, Detective, Patrol Officer and Instructor.  Prior to working for Clinton PD, Russell worked as an officer for both the Benson Police Department (2001-2003) and the Roseboro Police Department (2000-2001). 

Working for several different law enforcement agencies has helped instill a strong appreciation for the importance of training, experience and knowledge in our line of work.  As such, Mr. Strickland acts as a board member for the North Carolina Homicide Investigators Association to assist in the development of detectives and investigators working in this area.
