Description
An officer can arrive in a professional uniform, treat people well, and get through the shift while struggling with things a supervisor cannot immediately see.
Sometimes the concern becomes visible through performance. Sometimes it appears in behavior or wellness. The supervisory challenge is deciding how to respond when the concern is real but the full picture is still unclear.
Before the Crisis: Supervising At-Risk Employees prepares law enforcement supervisors to recognize and respond to employees whose performance, behavior, or wellness may be deteriorating before the situation becomes a crisis. The course connects early recognition with appropriate conversations, documentation, resource coordination, and accountability.
The focus is the supervisor’s role: noticing what needs attention, addressing the concern, and remaining responsible for the response. Supporting an employee and maintaining expectations belong in the same conversation.
This course is designed for law enforcement supervisors. It is particularly relevant to sergeants, unit supervisors, and command personnel whose responsibilities include employee performance, personnel concerns, and supervisory follow-through.
It addresses the point at which a supervisor recognizes that something may be changing and needs a thoughtful way to respond. The emphasis remains on the employee, the expectations of the job, and the supervisor’s responsibility to act.
