Antonio Zarzoza, widely known as "Instructor Z," is a retired law enforcement veteran, internationally recognized police and corrections trainer, instructional design specialist, author, entrepreneur, and AI education innovator with more than 26 years of combined law enforcement and training experience.
He began his career with the Hidalgo County Sheriff's Office in Edinburg, Texas, serving in a variety of operational and instructional assignments before joining the University of Texas System Police, where he spent 13 years as the Training Coordinator and Lead Trainer of the Advanced Law Enforcement Training Center. There, he developed the program from the ground up into a regional hub for advanced law enforcement training serving local, state, federal, and international agencies.
Today, Zarzoza is the founder and director of Instructor Z & Associates International, LLC, a training and consulting company providing specialized instruction to law enforcement, corrections, government agencies, and professional organizations throughout the United States and abroad. His training focuses on instructor development, officer safety, crisis intervention, leadership, communication, presentation design, and high-performance learning systems.
Known for his transformational teaching style, Zarzoza combines operational realism with behavioral science, visual storytelling, and modern instructional design to create immersive learning experiences that are practical, engaging, and immediately applicable. His expertise has also been sought by Fortune 500 organizations, where he has helped instructional teams improve presentation design, learner engagement, and instructional effectiveness.
His international work includes serving as a contract trainer in support of initiatives connected to the U.S. Department of State, delivering instructional development and specialized law enforcement training throughout Mexico and multiple countries across Latin America.
A member of the International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association (ILEETA) since 2007, Zarzoza serves as a Staff Instructor specializing in instructor development. He is also a Core Instructor and Instructor Trainer with the Below 100 Initiative, a Certified Force Science Analyst, a Curriculum Evaluator with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), and, in 2022, was appointed by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) as a Subject Matter Expert to assist in redesigning the statewide Basic and Advanced Instructor curricula. He also holds both National and International Instructor Certifications through the International Association of Directors of Law Enforcement Standards and Training (IADLEST).
