About Karan Sharma
Sergeant Karan Sharma began his law enforcement career in 2012 with the Shreveport Police Department as a Patrol Officer. In 2015, Sergeant Sharma was hired by the Louisiana State Police as a Patrol Trooper assigned to Troop G. He served as a member on the Louisiana State Police (LSP) Mobile Field Force Unit and was deployed to several civil disturbance missions across the state of Louisiana. He also provided support and control into Mobile Field Force formations, escalation of force support, reconnaissance support, and high-risk rescue operations.
Sergeant Sharma was then transferred to the Gaming Enforcement Division (GED). His primary responsibility was the oversight and regulation of video poker establishments, riverboat casinos, slot casinos at the horse racing tracks, and land-based casinos. Additionally, Sergeant Sharma managed the application and background processes associated with all locally licensed gaming entities and employees. He was transferred to Criminal Investigations Division CID) and was responsible for the enforcement of all applicable state and federal laws. This included investigating homicides, officer involved shootings, financial crimes, sexual assaults, insurance fraud, vehicle theft and other criminal activities across the state.
Within his current assignment to the Internal Affairs Division, Sergeant Sharma was promoted from a Case Agent to his current Sergeant rank in 2022. He has been the lead case investigator/supervisor on high-priority cases, trusted with sensitive information/tasks, and assisted other case agents with investigations. Sergeant Sharma successfully completed numerous promotional summaries, conducted numerous pre-employment polygraphs, assisted with Cadet Class (CC) backgrounds, Physical Agility Testing, Oral Boards, Scoring Committee, panel member representing IA during the CC Selection Panel, and proposed conditional job offers to CC applicants.
He also serves as a commissioned Federal Deputy Marshal, assigned to the US Secret Service Task Force (USSS). Sergeant Sharma’s primary responsibilities are to help prevent, detect, and mitigate complex cyber-enabled financial crimes, with the ultimate goal of arresting and convicting the most harmful perpetrators.
Sergeant Sharma is a graduate from the American International Institute of Polygraph (AIIP) as a certified Polygraphist and trained in the field of forensic psychophysiology using polygraph techniques. He has successfully completed the Federal Law Enforcement Training Centers (FLETC) - Use of Force Instructor program. He also completed the FBI LEEDA Supervisor and Commander Leadership Institute courses. Sergeant Sharma is currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Criminology from Northwestern University.
